Neurologic Aspects of Dizziness

Many symptoms are interpreted by the patient as dizziness.   This topic concentrates on the neurologic aspects, which commonly follow a benign course, but occasionally portend a serious outcome.   I find the Hallpike manouvre helpful in understanding the mechanism when the cause is peripheral, and the Epley manouvre occasionally helpful in resolving symptoms of benign positional vertigo.   Other causes of dizziness present with symptoms which can be somewhat amorphous, and are not covered in depth in this outline.
